Tamahere Playground - Tamahere, Waikato
Tamahere Playground in Hamilton, NZ was completed for the ‘Waikato District Council’ in May 2019. The original concept for this playground commenced in 2018 with a local landscape architect working on initial drawings and draft plans. Original estimates were well over budget so the project moved to a design and build tender phase and teamturf were successful in conjunction with our partners at Playground Creations. The redesign removed unnecessary costs while trying to maintain the colourful wetpour surfacing and many different interactive aspects of this new destination playground. Playground Creations in conjunction with teamturf constructed the 1.8m high mound, plus the basecourse surface ready for the new rubber wetpour layer. Using the APT rubber wetpour system with Qualipur 3401 and Melos EPDM rubber granules, this striking colourful install includes alternating strips of 5 different colours up and over a mound measuring 5m wide, 15m long and 1.8m high. With a 40mm black recycled SBR rubber base mat, this 550sqm area required many hours of hand screeding to achieve the smooth finished levels and straight joins you can see in the attached photos.
